Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica
A window into the territory, through memory, light and landscape.
Story of the place
The story that remains
The church is distinguished by a simple and harmonious façade, punctuated by Ionic and Corinthian capitals. In the center stands a window architraved with the image of the Most Holy Christ at the Column, while on the sides two statues, now eroded by time, depict Saint Gregory and Saint Rosalia. Above the door, a large coat of arms is animated by a putto that raises a drapery, revealing the Latin inscriptions "SIGNVM CVI CONTRADICETVR".
The bell tower, erected at the beginning of the eighteenth century, houses a large bell made by melting the gold donated by the faithful. Inside, the Latin cross layout develops into three naves separated by pillars and includes four chapels, creating a collected and solemn space, where architectural simplicity dialogues with the devotion and history of the community.
